This SmartMedia Systems-developed application is a useful tool for those who want to record audio and edit audio files. Power Audio Editor can record audio from your PC’s soundcard, and it can take said recording (or any other audio file you may have) and edit it. A lot of useful editing functions are bundled in a fairly straightforward interface.

9.9Mb is the size of the Power Audio Editor installation file. Download said file, double click it, and a setup wizard will show up; click through it and in little time you will have Power Audio Editor up and running on your PC. Said PC must meet these minimum system requirements: 166Mhz processor, 64MB of RAM, MME-compatible soundcard, graphics card capable of 800x600 resolution, Windows 2000 or newer.

The audio file selected for editing is displayed on Power Audio Editor’s interface in waveform mode; if you want to, you can switch to spectral mode. Above the waveform display there are many, many buttons related to the functionality Power Audio Editor has to offer. In the upper left hand corner there’s a traditional File Menu.

Taking advantage of the functionality Power Audio Editor has to offer is a relatively straightforward matter. Just load an audio file into the application (numerous formats are supported, from WAV to MP3 to VOX and many others), then start clicking the buttons on the application's interface to add fade in or fade out effects, to apply various filters, to cut a section out of the audio track, to reduce noise, to speed up the playback on a selected region, and more.

Because Power Audio Editor is only free to try, when you’re done editing a track, you cannot save it. The feature-limited Power Audio Editor trial can be used for free for a period of 30 days.

Power Audio Editor meets your audio recording needs and provides very useful audio editing functionality.

Pros

The minimum system requirements for running Power Audio Editor are quite low. The interface is typical for an application of this type. Power Audio Editor can record audio and it can edit audio files. You won’t have any problems getting accustomed to the functionality the application has to offer.

Cons

The trial edition, which can be used free of charge for evaluation purposes for 30 days, comes with limited functionality.
